Border between Poland and Ukraine
Border between Poland and Ukraine
Not used to stand in front of borders anymore I was wondering what all the cars were waiting for. Little bit blue eyed, as I am, I just drove over there without any preparation. Indeed I signed the contract for my health insurance the day I left Chemnitz, got my green insurance card for the car the day before and red about this card one day before that day. Well, worked out so far, nothing to worry about. And it was the same with the border. Indeed I met Nazar while waiting and looking at all the people getting out of their cars, arguing, complaining, getting some beer from the other side of the street. He detected the art work at the car and couldn’t resist the mountains, the water and the surfer dude as anybody can’t. Exchanged numbers and set a meeting in Lviv.
Took me an hour to get to the Ukraine but as tourist one gets even special treatment. The female police officer on Polish side was for example speeking English and she was quite friendly. She was the most friendly person in Poland I had talked to in the last days to be exact although our conversation started with the words „WHERE ARE YOU GOING?????“ cause I was driving past her little house to the Stop sign. So we had a good start right from the beginning. I continued with „äähh… ääähmmm… ähh?“ and from this point on it all was going by itself. After she looked at my passport she called me Andreas, I called her Mrs. Police Officer and we shaked hands before I left.
Unfortunately Ukrainian border was equipped with much more machine guns attached to men wearing ugly camouflage shirts. No English accepted. They wanted to have a look into the bus, I understood that, and when I was opening the back door to show them my kitchen and the smell (old bus plus one week sleeping in it) was seeping out just a little bit to get some fresh air himself they understood that there wasn’t much to get out of that story.
Another ten minutes to get throught the holes on the street the first hundred meters after the border and I was on the way to Lviv.
